Twerking squirrels and ‘brain rot’: The viral hits that dominated social media feeds in 2025

What began as a boredom-busting gag has snowballed into one of social media’s biggest surprise trends. The puppet phenomenon featuring furry animal puppets bouncing awkwardly to viral songs and EDM beats turned out to be the feel-good escape social media users have been craving. 

The cushy puppets twirling their butts to Taylor Swift hits, 2000s rap songs, and classic rock have been dominating feeds since August and September and the trend is expected to carry through the next year.
